Survey shows cloud computing is confronting a number of issues

According to the findings of a recent survey by the Open Data Center Alliance, nearly two-thirds of the members of the alliance - a consortium of global IT, cloud-enthusiast firms like Infosys, Disney, Deutsche Telekom and SAP - are apparently concerned about data security in the cloud computing arena, and are thus delaying their transition to the cloud.

Despite the fact that the figures released by the survey show that there has been a decline from the 80 percent alliance members who expressed concerns about data security in the cloud the previous year, the other results of the survey are headed away from cloud computing which is largely believed to be the future of storage and computing technology.

As per the survey, the percentage of members who assert that regulatory issues will limit their adoption of cloud computing has increased from 47 percent last year to 56 percent this year.

Moreover, 47 percent of the respondents in the latest survey - as compared to 29 percent last year - have expressed worries about being tied to one single vendor.

Against the backdrop of the results of the survey, which highlights that cloud computing is confronting several issues, Michael Masterson - director of cloud solutions for Compuware, which helps clients in enhancing the performance of their applications - said that cloud computing "is kind of in the first wave;" and added: "I don't know if I'd call it immature, but it's definitely Version 1."
