You Tube’s ‘ProudToPlay’ Campaign Reflects Changing Trend in Sports

Things are quite different when it comes to situation faced by LGBT community in 1990s and now and especially when it comes LGBT athletes entering into sports.

Earlier, media did not cover gay people in sports and used to pass by them. But now, things have changed completely. The LGBT community has embraced sports and some of the great institutions warmly welcome gay athletes.

In fact, YouTube has set a bar by dedicating its entire celebration of Gay Pride to athletes. It is a quite a big thing that the most powerful multi-media company in the world is recognising LGBT sports. It definitely indicates about the changing trend in the sports that was not possible years back.

It now seems that sports and the gay community is a good combination as both share the same core values like courage, heroism, and inner strength, good and plain fun. Seeing the same core values being shared by both the fields, now big companies are getting attracted to embrace the LGBT sports movement.

Nike has a campaign for gay-pride of the theme, BeTrue. The campaign aims to fund the LGBT Sports Coalition, a group that works to end anti-LGBT bias in sports.

YouTube'e effort, ProudToPlay campaign, not only recognizes the importance of sports in the LGBT community but also important of sports in movement's journey. The recent campaign of YouTube embodies the struggle of LGBT athletes as well as the pride of the entire community.
