Germany’s Justice Minister Calls for Probe over Spyware Use

As the news of a spyware being used to breach into the privacy of users is being running all over Germany, a controversy has been kick started over the legitimacy of using the spyware to keep a close eye on users.

Apparently, the charges are true but the purpose is told to be part of investigation of serious criminal cases. Nonetheless, states intervention is being called for so that the level of breach is being ascertained.

Even the same has been confirmed by Germany’s justice minister, who has called for a full fledge probe in the case. It has been confirmed by the Berlin-based Chaos Computer Club (CCC) that the malware programme called Federal Trojan has been programmed in such a way that it can keep a complete track of the websites visited and the communications exchanged by the user.

Though the programme has all the elements to be used by the police to track criminals, the provision of the program to be accessed by one and all on the internet makes it highly vulnerable to be manipulated for vested interests.

“The citizen, in both the public and private spheres, must be protected from snooping through strict state control mechanisms”, said Justice Minister Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger, while calling on federal and state Governments to take needed action immediately.
