According to reports, the newly-launched ‘Pokemon Go’ mobile game – for the iPhone and Android smartphones – has become a hit smartphone game, giving Nintendo an early taste of smartphone success. The game was launched in the US and Australia on July 7.
Pokemon Go is Nintendo’s new smartphone game for its popular Pokemon fantasy monster character franchise. The game essentially gives gamers the ability to track down the Pokemon virtual monsters in their surroundings.
In an evident indication that the Pokemon Go game has become quite a craze in the mobile gaming arena, a recent report by market researcher App Annie has revealed that the game has -- ever since its July 7 launch -- notched the top spot on the free-to-download app charts for Apple in the US and Australia.
Moreover, the launch of the Pokemon Go smartphone game, and its instant success, has also resulted in an addition of $7 billion to the market value of Nintendo, even though the company has not yet fully plunged itself into the mobile gaming market.
In the wake of the stupendous early success of the Pokemon Go mobile game, Amir Anvarzadeh -- BGC Partners’ manager of Japanese equity sales -- said in a recent note to clients: “This game may not be big enough to move the earnings dial in the short term but sentiment-wise it could prove very potent at this stage for Nintendo.”
