Play Store on Chrome OS is out for one device --- ASUS Chromebook Flip

With tech giant Google scheduled to launch the Play Store on the Chrome OS later this year to mark the addition of Android apps to Chromebooks, the new feature can now be tested by the owners of one Chromebook --- the ASUS Chromebook Flip.

The availability of the Play Store on Chrome OS for the users of ASUS Chromebook Flip comes a few weeks after a last-month announcement by Google that Android apps will start working on Chromebooks in the near future.

The announcement was noteworthy because Chromebooks have a sparse app offering; and, hence, the addition of Android apps to a Chromebook would give it the ability to access almost all apps which can be used by users of Android devices.

Meanwhile, though the Android apps on Chrome feature has been made available to the owners of ASUS Chromebook Flip with effect from Friday, the feature is initially out only on the developer release channel, which implies that there is the likelihood of bugs.

To have the Play Store show up on the ASUS Chromebook Flip, the users of the device need to enable developer mode. For that, they have to go to the 'Settings' option; tap on 'About Chrome OS' at the top of the screen, and select More info > Change channel > dev channel.
