According to a research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, it has been unveiled there are certain blood pressure medicines that can increase risk of breast cancer among post-menopausal women.
The study carried out by US-based researchers have found if the above mentioned group of women taken certain blood pressure drugs like calcium channel blockers for 10 years or more then they see a rise of breast cancer risk by 2.4 to 2.6-fold.
As per the researchers, there are a number of studies that have been done in the past and have found positive association between calcium channel blockers and breast cancer risk. But this study is said to be one of a kind that has found the blockers to be associated with breast cancer risk.
Main job of the blockers is to prevent calcium from entering to the muscles of heart and arteries. "The present study provides valid evidence supporting the hypothesis that long-term CCB use increases the risk of breast cancer. If true, the hypothesis has significant clinical and public health implications", said Patricia Coogan from Boston University.
Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women across the world.
