Is All Well between Berlin and Israel?

A recent report talked about the visit of Israeli Prime Minister in Berlin in order to be part of the fourth intergovernmental consultations with Germany, being held since 2008. It has further been reported that the agenda of this meeting is on the lines of the rising tension between the two allies.

There were many who were not pleased with the stance taken by Berlin, while the recent UN vote to raise the status of Palestine to a state observer in the organization and the same is expected to have raised a lot of discomfort among the two nations.

While Netanyahu has admired the support given by the chancellor, Angela Merkel, and the federal government in the voting, he is aghast with the neutral stance taken by Berlin.

"Merkel was of the opinion that this should in some way contribute to peace in the Middle East," but that "in fact, the opposite happened: after the UN vote for autonomy the Palestinian Authorities prepare for integration with the terrorists of Hamas", said Netanyahu, while asserting that by grating the status, Palestinians are pleased.

Nonetheless, it has been asserted by deputy government spokesman of Germany Georg Streiter that the two countries are very much bonded and there is nothing to worry about the future association between the two.
