Neil deGrasse Tyson will be paying a tribute to his mentor by hosting remake of Carl Sagan's popular television series, 'Cosmos'. He will give an enthralling look to the show. The new series 'Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey' comprises of 13 episodes and people can see it on Fox and the National Geographic channel starting Sunday, March 9.
A report by Dennis Overbye in the New York Times said that the new 'Cosmos' will be broadcast to 170 nations in 45 languages. The executive producer, director, and writer for the new series will be none other than Carl Sagan's widow, Ann Druyan. She has already worked with him on the original 'Cosmos' series.
Druyan said the worldwide opening for the new 'Cosmos' will be the largest ever for a television series.
She said Neil deGrasse Tyson was the perfect choice to host the new series as he has the ardor for science and uncanny ability to communicate complex problems of astrophysics in way people can easily understand them.
Previous Cosmos has been seen by an estimated 400 million people over more than 60 countries.
Tyson admitted that he was surprised when he had his first encounter with Seth MacFarlane over lunch as he was asked by the creator of Family Guy and American Dad that how he could make a difference in science.
He said that he thought to himself is this Seth MacFarlane, the guy who illustrates Seth MacFarlane. "That was my first indication that, in fact, he has some deep, genuine desire to make a difference in this world. And the rest, as we say, is history", Tyson recalled, earlier this year in Pasadena, California.
Druyan said that they have endeavored to open the doors for Cosmos to the widest possible audience. The new series will entertain them and enable them to feel the great, awesome power of the scientific perspective.
