Utah will Comply with Federal Law With Regard to Same-Sex Marriage Couples

It was in June that the Supreme Court has dropped the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act that denies provision of any sort of benefits to same-sex couples.

Since then a number of things have been taking place in Utah. Currently, Utah has not been legally accepting marriage other than between a man and a woman. But with this, Attorney General Sean Reyes has affirmed that the same-sex marriages that have taken place between December 20 and January 6 will receive all the benefits.

It was the time when the state ban was overturned by a federal judge's decision. Governor Gary Herbert has affirmed that there is no second opinion in the fact that Utah is going to comply with federal law.

Herbert and Reyes must be having a tough time as now they have to make sure that the state administration is fair to all. With this, they also have to ensure that Utah's democratically values do not get compromised.

It has been found that around 1,300 same-sex marriages have taken place in Utah between December 20 and January 6. On it, Reyes said that if the marriage has taken place in these dates that a county clerk's office would have also issued a marriage certificate. This would be important to get the benefits.
