It has recently come out to be known that tenants were restored by Actor Tom Cruise's ancestor to lands where they were expelled before the Great Famine.

Tom Cruise's great-great-great grandfather was Patrick Russell Cruise. It has been found that he came back from America when he came to know that tenants had been evicted by his land agent in 1843 from lands in Co Westmeath.

The report says that the tenants were restored to 500 acres of Co Westmeath land by him, compromising of townlands in Dardistown and Paristown. In November 1844, a public dinner was also organized in the town of Clonmellon in his honour.

But in March 1849 in Dublin, Patrick Russell Cruise died and did not return to America. It is being said that he was laid to rest in Donabate in north Dublin.

Tom Cruise, the well known actor, took birth as Tom Cruise Mapathor IV in 1962, according to the research. It is being said that the Cruises might trace their Irish presence back to the Strongbow and Anglo-Normans.

Tourism Ireland had commissioned the research on behalf of The Gathering, which has discovered that the Cruise as well as Mapathor families had originated in Ireland. The study said that the Russells, a third family, were also there that were prominent in his background.
