Facebook website lists official job opening called ‘Head of News Partnerships’
Social network Facebook has recently listed a new, official job opening -- ‘Head of News Partnerships’ -- on its website. The job posting indicates that Facebook is looking for a suitable person to help the company manage news stories.
Facebook’s listing of the official job opening comes against the backdrop of recent criticism that the social networking site is being used for publicizing ‘fake’ or unsubstantiated stories because of its role as a news aggregator.
As a result of the widespread criticism due to the ‘fake news’ issue, Facebook is apparently planning to hire a mediator who can help in objectively deciphering -- if that is possible -- high-quality content from fake, lower-quality or misleading news stories.
According to the job listing on the Facebook website, the candidates applying for the ‘Head of News Partnerships’ position should have at least 20 years of experience in news as well as a strong track-record of business competence.
Facebook has mentioned in the job posting that the key objective of the company’s News Partnerships team is “to help publishers and journalists understand how to reach and engage their audiences, and to innovate with new technologies.”
