Twitch launches ‘AutoMod’ automated tool to fight against chat room trolls
In a recent announcement, streaming service Twitch has revealed that it is rolling out a new automated tool which has been designed with the objective of creating a “positive and inclusive chat experience.”
The new automated tool launched by Twitch is called ‘AutoMod.’ The launch of the new tool underscores an evident effort by Twitch to curb a wave of chat harassment. In other words, the new AutoMod tool will enable Twitch to combat chat room trolls.
In sharing details about the new AutoMod tool, Twitch said that the tool -- which is an opt-in feature -- basically tries to detect inappropriate messages automatically, and, in a preventive move, send those messages for approval or dismissal to a moderation queue. As such, the tool does not depend on humans to flag and remove inappropriate messages after they have been posted.
According to Twitch, users can crack down on offensive content with the help of the AutoMod tool by selecting different levels of aggression in four categories --- identity, aggressive speech, profanity, and sexual language.
As of now, the full AutoMod version is available only in English. However, the tool is also in beta for a number of other languages, including Arabic, Czech, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Turkish.
