Google expands ‘Early Access’ beta testing program to developers

In a Thursday announcement, Google said that the access to its ‘Early Access’ beta testing program is being expanded to more developers.

The ‘Early Access’ beta testing program is one of the components of Google’s Play Store marketplace of mobile apps. The program was launched by Google in March this year, to enable Android developers to better reach early adopters who showed interest in trying their apps while still in beta, prior to the final launch of the apps to the general public.

As such the ‘Early Access’ section on the Google Play Store chiefly allows users to test unpolished versions of apps. Via the section, users are able to download amusing new apps from a curated list of still-in-beta apps.

Till now, inclusion of developers in the ‘Early Access’ beta testing program was based on the sole discretion of Google; with the initial inclusion in the program limited only to a select group of 29 app and game partners.

However, in announcing that the access to ‘Early Access’ beta testing program is being expanded to more developers, Google said that it is now introducing a sign-up process for Android developers, so that they can nominate their apps for consideration for the best testing program.
