Mark Zuckerberg makes a surprise visit to Nigeria's capital Lagos

On Tuesday, social network Facebook’s billionaire CEO Mark Zuckerberg made his first-ever trip to Sub-Saharan Africa, with a surprise visit to Lagos, the capital of Nigeria.
Zuckerberg’s visit to Nigeria has brought the country’s tech business strongly into the world’s center stage. About the objective behind the visit, a statement released by Facebook said that Zuckerberg basically wants to know how “tech development and entrepreneurship” can be better supported across Africa.
With regard to the purpose of his Nigeria visit, Zuckerberg said during the course of a Q&A session streamed live on Facebook on Wednesday that the social networking company plans to make its tools and apps more affordable for small and medium enterprises in the country.
Moreover, with Nigeria being Facebook’s biggest market in Africa, boasting nearly 16 million active monthly users, Zuckerberg proudly highlighted the fact that the Hausa language – which is mostly spoken in northern Nigeria – has recently been put on the social networking platform. He also added that the company has plans underway to expand to other Nigerian languages.
About his visit, Zuckerberg said in an impromptu speech at a local innovation center and tech hub in Yaba: "This is my first trip to sub-Saharan Africa. I'll be meeting with developers and entrepreneurs, and learning about the startup ecosystem in Nigeria. The energy here is amazing and I'm excited to learn as much as I can."
