YouTube launches new standalone smart TV app
In a Thursday announcement, Google-owned video-sharing website YouTube has revealed that it is rolling out a standalone smart TV app, in an apparent attempt to better accommodate the users who watch videos on devices like Apple TV and Roku streaming media player.
Announcing the launch of its new smart TV app, YouTube said that the interface of the app is simpler and more streamlined, so as to facilitate viewers in finding the videos that they want to watch on the Tube.
About the evident reason behind its release of the new smart TV app, YouTube said that the results of its recent survey in the US has revealed that more than 50 percent of the 18-to-49-year-old users in the country said that they have watched YouTube videos on their TVs.
YouTube also drew attention to the fact that, since 2015, the amount of time that Tube viewers spend on watching videos on the YouTube app has doubled.
In connection with the launch of the new smart TV app, YouTube said in an email to Fortune: “We are investing to deliver a lean back experience through recommendations. This will be available today in the YouTube app in smart TVs, game consoles, and streaming boxes in the US, but we plan to roll out to more countries in the future.”
