In an announcement made at the I/O developer conference on Wednesday, Google said that it has added new hardware partners to its Android TV and Google Cast products which enable users to view web content on TV screens.
One of Google's new hardware partners for Android TV and Google Cast is Chinese electronics firm Xiaomi.
At the I/O conference, Xiaomi introduced its new 'Mi Box' Android TV-powered 4K set-top box. The company said that the new Mi Box -- which is different from a Mii Box model already available in China and through Amazon -- will be available in the US, as well as in "other global markets."
According to the details shared by Xiaomi, the new Android TV-powered 4K Mi Box works with a Bluetooth remote equipped with voice recognition. The device also comes with on-board Google Cast technology, so as to enable users to cast content from Android and iOS devices.
Revealing that the built-in Google Cast option gives Mi Box the ability to emulate the screen of the users' smartphone or tablet, Xiaomi said that the device supports 4K UHD content, and the latest HDR standards. In addition, other popular apps will be available for download for Mi Box will include Netflix, Vudu and Hulu.
