John Kerry Intervenes As Tensions between Israel and Gaza Increase
All the airlines around the world will stay away from Israeli Ben Gurion International Airport, as on Tuesday a Hamas missile landed a mile from the airport's runways.
However, this incident did not stop the Secretary of State John Kerry from landing at the same airport next day. He is there to reinforce the cessation of hostilities between Gaza and Israel.
It is expected that John Kerry could reduce the tensions between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank.
Much before Kerry's efforts, the U.N. Sec. Gen. Ban Ki Moon has been working hard to stop the bloodshed between the two countries that has taken 680 lives in total till now. The workers sent by U.N. to help civilians have found themselves stuck between Israeli soldiers and Hamas fighters quite a lot of times.
In one such recent incident a tank believed to be from the Israeli military attacked the building where the U.N. Reliefs and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees had housed 300 civilians.
"Further shelling took place, which endangered the lives of the U.N. staff and put them in serious danger," Chris Gunness, the spokesman for UNRWA, told CNN. He reproached the Israel Defense Forces asking about the attack even when the building was clearly marked by a U.N. flag.
Following all these incidents U.S., European and Canadian carriers cancelled flights into Tel Aviv indefinitely, despite protests from the Israeli government that its lifeline to the outside world was safe.
