Air France A380 Makes Emergency Landing in Canada
After explosion of an engine during flight, an Air France Air France confirmed that Airbus A380 aircraft landed safely at Goose Bay Airport after engine failure. The flight bound for Los Angeles departed from Paris at 11.42 am.
The aircraft was flying at 37,000 feet and had just crossed Greenland when the engine failure happened. Passengers reported that they heard a loud bang and then strong vibration for next 5-10 minutes. The captain announced about engine failure nearly 15 minutes after the incident. Cabin crew handled the situation carefully.
Passenger Rick Engebretsen from California shared the images of damaged engine on Twitter. Airbus A380 aircraft has four total engines and the plane landed safely at Goose Bay Airport.
As the aircraft landed at Goose Bay Airport, passengers were waiting for hours before they could come out of the plane. The airport was not having adequate facilities for dealing with Airbus A380 passenger load. Air France informed, “The regularly trained pilots and cabin crew handled this serious incident perfectly. The passengers are currently being assisted by teams dispatched to the location.”
Engine Alliance, the engine manufacturer for the A380 for the Air France aircraft has commented on the incident. The company said that it will review the reports and check the issue in detail. Engine Alliance is a joint venture between General Electric and Pratt & Whitney.
Air France has not commented on the cause of engine failure. However, the flight was late by nearly 90 minutes from its scheduled departure time of 10.10 am from Paris.
