Macron has high chances of winning Presidential Elections
The opinion polls are favoring Macron in the French Presidential Elections. The voter turnout is low as was predicted by many political analysts. While Marine Le Pen has low chances of winning the elections, her party could finish at its best levels since inception.
Macron managed to get support from many opponents of Marine Le Pen. Many voters supporting Macron said that they would only go to vote to make sure that Marine Le Pen doesn’t win the elections. Marine Le Pen has talked about taking France out of the European Union. Her views are too extreme for majority of French voters.
Opinion polls suggest that Macron could win nearly 60 percent of votes but stock market experts have become skeptical about opinion polls, especially after Brexit and Donald Trump’s win in the U.S. Presidential elections. Many other European countries will be facing elections this year and the outcome of French elections is considered important for the future of European Union.
The data released by the Interior Ministry showed that 28.3 percent of voters came out to vote till midday. The turnout is relatively lower compared to voter turnout in 2007 and 2012. While voter turnout in 2002, 2007 and 2012 was above 80 percent, political analysts are expecting turnout to remain around 75 percent this year.
The results will be declared in few hours and French citizens will have a new President. This election marks a rare situation when both the candidates in the second round of Presidential elections aren’t from mainstream parties in France.
