HTC unveils two new accessories for Vive VR system

Taiwanese consumer electronics giant HTC Corp. used the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas on Wednesday to introduce the world to its two accessories for the Vive system, a Vive Tracker and a new head strap.

The HTC Vive is a virtual reality headset developed by HTC in partnership with Valve Corporation. To make the regular Vive experience better, the company introduced the Vive Tracker that allows users to attach controllers or other physical peripherals so that they can be tracked in the virtual world. The new head strap comes equipped with integrated audio to ensure a more comfortable fit.
Analysts acknowledged that the new accessories represent incremental improvements to the HTC Vive VR system by increasing the number of devices that users can now take into their virtual gaming worlds.

Ramon Llamas, a senior analyst with IDC, said, "It's evolution in the right direction. It's answering some of the needs and demands from a hardware perspective."

But, some analysts pointed out that they do little to fix the dilemma that the system is still too expensive for a casual consumer to buy. The HTC Vive VR system costs $800 as well as requires a high-end PC.

The Vive Tracker and the Deluxe Audio Strap will hit the market sometime in the second quarter of this year. Price tags for the both accessories will be disclosed ahead of their release.
