Motorola's modular smartphones – Moto Z and Moto Z Force

Motorola’s newest flagship devices -- the Moto Z and the Moto Z Force -- promise to be the first true modular smartphones, which the company hopes will be well-received by the consumers.

The Moto Z and Moto Z Force modular smartphones will be available for purchase – with Droid branding – from bigwig US wireless carrier Verizon in August; and will become more broadly available in the fall.

According to the details shared by Motorola, the 5.2mm Moto Z modular smartphone will be an ultra-thin handset; while the Moto Z Force will be slightly thicker, and also comparatively more powerful. In addition, the Moto Z Force will also have a bigger and faster-charging battery than Moto Z; as well as a better 21-megapixel camera, as compared to Moto Z’s 13-megapixel camera.

Both the Moto Z and Moto Z Force modular handsets will boast a 5.5-inch display; and, thanks to their extremely rapid charging feature, will be able to offer hours of battery life out of barely 15 minutes of charging.

The Moto Z and Moto Z Force will both support Motorola’s modules -- called Moto Mods -- which will comprise swappable accessories that can supercharge the handsets with additional features. Three Moto Mods which Motorola has already revealed include a battery pack, a speaker accessory, and a projector that enables users to watch videos from their device on the surfaces around them.
