At the E3 extravaganza scheduled to begin in Los Angeles on Tuesday, console market rivals Microsoft and Sony will vie for dominance of the video game industry by putting the spotlight on their respective new game consoles --- the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4
(PS4).
During their E3 press events on Monday, Microsoft and Sony, both will showcase the blockbuster titles and attention-grabbing graphics of their respective Xbox One and PS4 new-generation consoles.
In addition, the two rivals will also promote their consoles at the show, highlighting the fact that their gaming systems are evolving into multipurpose home entertainment centers.
While Microsoft and Sony will fight it out for the throne of the video game industry at the E3 event, the third bigwig console maker, Nintendo, will probably take a low profile approach to the event. Since Nintendo's new-generation Wii U console has been overshadowed by the Xbox One and PS4, the company is planning an online event which it intends streaming prior to the official inauguration of the E3 gaming-industry event.
Against the backdrop of the forthcoming efforts by Microsoft and Sony to gain dominance of the video-game industry, Scott Steinberg - manager and strategy analyst at Phoenix Online Studios - said: "At the end of the day, what sells video game systems are blockbuster games. The competing players will trot out major titles and try to establish dominance."
