Scientists have dispelled earlier beliefs that no turbulence will be caused during journey across spacetime, as it is showed in many science-fiction movies. But as a matter of fact, the journey is full of bumps and swirls. Yes, this is what a new research has revealed, claiming that disturbances in the flying experience will be caused by gravitational fields around black holes.

The researcher built their study on the belief that gravity can behave as a liquid, and turbulence is one of the characteristic behaviors of fluids, which means that they do not move freely under certain conditions.

"Gravity can be described as a field theory. It is a two-step dance: gravity equals field theory, and field theory equals fluids, so gravity equals fields equals fluids. That's called the gravity/fluids duality", explained Luis Lehner from Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, an independent research centre in Ontario, Canada.

Researchers believed for long that turbulence could not be caused by gravity. However, to confirm the theory, the team decided to conduct a study on fast-spinning black holes. They decided to conduct this study because by determining a fluid-dynamics description of such holes, it becomes possible to find that the spacetime around them is less vicious than the spacetime around other kinds of black holes.

Chances of turbulence are increased by low viscosity. It was very surprising to come across turbulent behavior in space, said Huan Yang from Perimeter and Institute for Quantum Computing.

The research has clearly indicated that gravity can be treated as a fluid, which also means that fluids can be treated gravitationally, concluded the study.
