Avatar Exercise May help in Reducing Weight, says study

With every passing day, new measures are derived to lose weight. Recently, a study has taken place in which it has been suggested that virtual reality can prove useful in losing weight.

The study was carried out by a group of reaserchers from George Washington University in Washington. In order to reach at the above given result, the study reaserchers carried out a survey on 128 overweight women.

After assessing their answers, it was unveiled that more than 88% women feel that by watching an avatar they will get better understanding of how to lose weight. Study researchers then decided to carry out a research in order to test the idea.

For the experiment, the study reaserchers enrolled women a month's DVD course. By watching an avatar, they learnt about things to be eaten during breakfast, lunch and dinner and the portion one should consume.

Moreover, they watched exercise patterns as well. "When an avatar looks like you, it increases self-efficacy, which is somebody's confidence that they themselves have the ability to do that act", said lead researcher Melissa Napolitano.

The study, which has been published in the Journal of Diabetes, Science and Technology, has found that women, who watched avatar exercise, were able to lose weight.
